How Does VoIP Service Work?

January 4th, 2010

VoIP technology is a one way of sending a voice signal also known as an analog signal in a medium which is digital, i. e, the internet. In practice, the process works like this when you have a standard analog telephone attached to your high speed internet connection with VoIP service. There will be an analog telephone adapter or ATA between the phone and the computer. In order to place what would normally be a long distance call to a person who doesn’t have VoIP service you key in the number you want. The analog telephone adapter converts the touch tones into a digital format. The digital phone number is sent by the analog telephone adapter to the VoIP routing system at the service provider’s location. The VoIP service provider is located on the internet as well. The VoIP service provider’s routing system identifies the recipient’s location and sends the call to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PTSN) at that location. The phone rings at the other end and the conversation can begin. Each time you speak, the analog to digital converter in the analog telephone adapter changes the voice tones into packets of digital information that can be transmitted across the internet. When the VoIP service meshes with the Public Switched Telephone Network at the recipient’s end, the digital packets which are the voice tones from you get turned back into an analog signal so that you recipient of your call can understand what you are saying. The reverse process, i. e. the transmission of what the other person says to you is a mirror image of the first process. Their voice is transformed from analog to digital when it gets to the PSTN/internet connection. The digital packets are sent to the analog telephone adapter at your location where they are converted back into an audible or analog signal to be able to perceive the voice as that of your caller. The technology to do the conversion from analog to digital and back again has been around as long as digital electronics. For example, your PC sound card converts digital CD information to analog signal needed by the speakers on your computer. The difficult part of the VoIP technology is the necessity to smoothly transmit the digital data over the internet and reassemble it in a continuous stream. This is know as the protocol. When listening to voice transmission, there can be no gaps in the stream of digital packets or the voices will not be understandable. This part of the technology has only recently been available, but is actually equal or better in quality than you get with standard telephone networks. The equipment available today that uses VoIP technology can be an analog telephone adapter for your head set through the computer. There are a few VoIP phones that act like a regular analog telephone but have the ATA incorporated into the phone. It’s actually a small dedicated personal computer in your telephone. These VoIP phones can be plugged into the computer with high speed internet connection or into the router.

VoIP Phone Service – Increasing Business Efficiencies All the Way

December 24th, 2009

Investment in VoIP technology is on the increase. As a matter of fact, cable companies have been the latest entrants in the arena and are giving a tough competition to the Internet service providers in different parts of the world. The market for VoIP phone service is growing by leaps and bounds. The results of the latest research substantiate this industry trend. Increasingly, the circuit-based TDM networks are being replaced by IP-based architecture as more and more organisations are making the most of the operational efficiencies of voice over IP.

And the best part is that the broadband Internet phone service is becoming innovative with time. New and better protocol gateways are being introduced to enhance the quality of calls. The installation process has also become simpler – leading to a more wide-spread use of Internet technology. VoIP services are the best for quite a few reasons. First and foremost, this phone service come with superior voice quality – more so in high bandwidth. These services can be easily integrated with existing infrastructure of client companies. Moreover, the costs involved are significantly less as compared to the services of traditional phone operators.

Voice over IP services are reliable and the quality of service is comparatively better. There are minor hitches that the clients might face that include some voice quality problems and the need to reboot the DTA. Client organisations could tune their networks to identify and correct these problems. They could also get in touch with the VoIP Internet phone service providers.

In this new technology, the voice is digitalised and sent over the Internet. At the destination, the digitalised voice is converted into normal voice through facilitating technology. In VoIP business phone service, a high speed Internet connection is used for making telephone calls over the Internet. With the emergence of VoIP, the monopoly of traditional service providers over telephone services – especially the long distance phone services – has been eroded to a significant extent. The add-on benefits such as easy transfer of images, videos and texts on the same network have made these IP services all the more popular.

VoIP phone services come with some other functionality as well. Voice mail, 3-way calling, caller ID, call forwarding, and call waiting are some of the specialised services that are available. This fact holds special significance for businesses such as call centers and contact centers. They can now take care of their customers in a more efficient manner.

To conclude, one could reiterate the increasing popularity of IP telephony service. This technology is proving to be highly beneficial for business users – especially those having a global presence. The institutional users of this innovative technology are making the most of the situation. As a matter of fact, the future of VoIP services are being decided by the specific needs of the voice protocol users in this category.

VoIP Phone Service: One of the Best Voice Phone Service

December 23rd, 2009

VoIP services are becoming the major features in the communication scenario of both the common man as well as of the big company. The advantages that are a part of this service bear not only the tag of excellence but many other tags like brilliance, magnificent and fantastic. The success is able to be seen in the money being earned by the numerous service providers who are involved in the act of providing the features of the VoIP technology in the form of VoIP phone services all around the world. Perhaps, one of the examples is the level of services being provided by a revolution in the world of communication and this revolution is known as iCallGlobe, which is perhaps turning out to be a dominant brand which is providing this service in the best way possible. Hence, with an average annual growth of about 22 percent and with its existing users’ lists, the success of this service provider is evident at the very first glance. Let us now move to the VoIP technology and have a clear understanding of its basic concepts. The method of sending information in the form of data packets is being used by the technology of VoIP and this is done by modifying human voice (that is created from the vocal cords of the human being making the call) into digital signals and then these signals are transformed into data packets using marvellous techniques like speech compression. The working of this process is vested with the feature of reliability, speed and efficiency. Hence, the success of VoIP internet phone service is also due to the advantages that are a part of the method described in the earlier part of this paragraph. The person has many options to take for availing the benefits of this fantastic service due to the different tools in the form of the PC and the telephone being present. If the choice is a PC then the need is to acquire the required software which is normally available in the website of the service provider who is providing the wonders of VoIP to the person. The other option is to use a normal phone which needs to have the device known as ATA or Analogue Telephone Adaptor and the user is required to acquire this device and install on his phone. There is also the tool of the VoIP phone which already has the necessary requirements for making a VoIP call. VoIP services are turning out to be quite effective in providing the features of efficiency and speed in the field of communication and are therefore being used not only by persons but also by businesses. The feature of VoIP business service has therefore two different but fantastic altogether, dimensions to it. The first sees businesses being able to cut costs associated with making calls due to the use of the VoIP technology and the second one has the presence of service providers, for whom a revenue amounts are increasing with every year. This is perhaps evident in an example given in the earlier part of this article. The VoIP service that is being now assuming a role of perhaps the widely used medium for the purpose of making calls featured with benefits. These benefits are financially quite amiable even if the entity that is using the service is a person or a business. The major reason for the price being cheap is due to the low costs being a feature of sending information across networks another major factor for this marvellous service to be extremely cheap is the use of fibre optics as the physical medium instead of the standard telephone lines. The choice of fibre optics is quite a good one as this process of transmitting data with the medium of fibre optics being quite an economical one. The process hence is quite advanced both in terms of basic technology and also financial aspects as well. The prospect for becoming quite a well known service is therefore quite high and hence, VoIP is here to acquire fame and prosperity.
