Staying in contact with other people – whether those other people are family, friends, or business contacts- is important. Unfortunately most of us don’t have nearly as much flexibility when it comes to staying in contact as we’d like. For example, there are times when you want to be contacted and lament the fact that it’s not easier for the people who you want to talk to to find you. At other times, you might just want to be left alone, but can’t get away from people who want something from you.

Now there’s a convenient and cost effective way to manage how you call other people and how they contact you via phone. This is due to a new type of technology called VOIP which stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. VOIP technology has indeed been around for a number of years and is best known for letting people to make free or low cost long distance calls by using the Internet, instead of regular phone systems, to route those calls. Now VOIP technology has been expanded by a number of services to give people in greater control over how they handle both local and long distance calls. This is typically achieved by giving people the chance to change the options on their accounts over the Internet. For example, if there’s a business call that you absolutely have to receive, you can tell your VOIP account to forward that call to every phone that you could possibly be close by when you wait for that call. That way, when your client dials your business number, your business phone, your mobile, your home, your cousin’s, and your in law’s phones will all ring at once and keep ringing until one of them has picked up, your voice mail has picked up, or the caller hangs up.

Similar technology allows your business to handle various crises. For example, if you use VOIP technology for you business phone system in , you can have the phones of your and your employees ring in a set sequence when a client calls in need of support. That way, if the tech guy doesn’t pick up his phone, the call will be forwarded to the human resource manager’s telephone, and if she doesn’t pick up her phone, then your phone will ring. Any ringing sequence that you like can be assigned to the phones, and voice mail can always take care of it if no one picks up.

VOIP services also make it easy and cost effective to add more phone lines and even have them fed to the same handset. You can also give each line its own unique ring tone so that you know who the call is for, if it’s a business call or a personal call, or whatever. This option makes it possible to give each member of the household his or her own phone number and to keep from picking up each other’s calls. VOIP also get phone lines with numbers in other area codes to make it easier and cheaper for others to stay in contact with you.

Of course, if you want to take advantage of VOIP services, you need to have a broadband Internet connection. While a high speed DSL service will do, broadband cable is the service of choice for VOIP because it tends to have greater connection speeds. Even better, broadband cable will let you to save money by canceling your land line altogether! This is a enormous advantage for anyone who’s annoyed withall of the pointless surcharges on each bill that add up to almost as much as the service itself!

VOIP technology is a great way to take greater control of how you communicate with the people around you and save money in the process. This is the end of your search. Start today!

VOIP technology has advanced to a stage where VOIP is no longer an interesting start up, but a strong and valid technological force that offers so many benefits, not the least of which is huge savings in long distance phone calls. Many businesses have gone from expensive and complicated intra-office phone systems to switching to a VOIP system because of the increase in efficiency and strong decrease in cost. The continuing advancement of VOIP technology is what makes this possible.

Residential VOIP refers to the software that allows you to download the technology onto your computer and then communicate with family, friends, and acquaintances in the same way you would on the telephone, but your computer is used as a telephone instead. Because the technology is based on phone communication through the Internet, anyone you want to contact will also need to download the same technological software on their computers, but don’t worry, this is actually very easy!

What if you still want to call people who don’t have VOIP? One of the smartest technological advances by the companies encouraging the development of VOIP technology was creating an adaptor. An adaptor hooks up to a regular phone, and hooks it up to your VOIP so you can still use the residential VOIP to call any phone, whether it is a VOIP phone, a landline, or even a cell phone! This little piece of equipment allows you all the benefits of VOIP without any of the potential restrictions that could make people hesitant to invest in this service.

With the advancement of portable VOIP phones (Vonage is perhaps the best known company that provides this service), the question has been brought up of whether or not VOIP phones will be able to ever replace cell phones, and what would the difference be? While the technology is there for this to happen, the infrastructure isn’t there yet; though it is getting closer with each passing day.

The advantage of this would be that VOIP would be far cheaper, since long distance wouldn’t cost nearly anything and there would be no restriction on minutes. A wireless VOIP phone is also referred to as a “Wi-Fi VOIP phone,” and needs networks in the same way wireless internet needs networks, to work, but more are popping up every day, and many cities plan to increase the number of hot spots, which would make this a more and more viable option.

Many cell phone companies, sensing ahead of time what this could mean for them if they refuse to adapt, now design phones that not only work as regular cell phones, but also have features that allow the user to switch to their VOIP account if they are close enough to a hot spot. While complete VOIP is a long ways off, the beginning structures are there, and as the VOIP technology improves, it would not be surprising to head towards the day where VOIP isn’t a side game, but the main choice available to all phone users.

VOIP technology provides you control over your phone. If you rely on the telephone to stay in contact with people- whether they’re family, friends, or business contacts- you may complain about the fact that telephone service in general is overpriced and balky. Now there’s a solution in the form of VOIP technology. VOIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, and just like the name implies, it’s based on technology that converts voice conversations into data that can be sent back and forth over the Internet.

Now, you may be thinking how there could possibly be any advantage from transmitting phone conversations across the Internet. In reality though using the Internet to transmit conversations makes a lot of sense, because the Internet (practically|essentially|substantially} bypasses long distance charges. Just like you don’t pay long distance charges whenever you request a web page from the other side of the world or send an email to the next state, phone conversations that are transmitted over the Internet using VOIP technology don’t rack up long distance charges either. That means that, especially if you spend a lot of time on the phone, you can save some serious money by using VOIP technology.

There are indeed a number of companies that suggest VOIP services to anyone who has a broadband Internet connection. These companies typically charge a monthly fee- which is often a whole lot lower than your normal phone bill- and provide you with the ability to make local and long distance calls without paying anything extra. Most of the VOIP plans offered by these companies provide an unlimited number of minutes, but there are a few discount plans that give you five hundred minutes a month and then charge you extra if you go over.

In addition to free long distance calls, most of these companies offer an unbelievable amount of flexibility when it comes to how you’re permited to use your telephone service in general. For example, Caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, conference calls, and voice mail come standard one most plans with most VOIP services.

In addition, you can often take even more control over how you use your phone service by blocking calls from specific numbers, blocking calls from any number that doesn’t provide Caller ID data, and refusing to provide your own Caller ID data to numbers that you’re calling.

It’s also easy to add extra lines to your VOIP account, have them all transfered into the same handset, and assign different ring tones to each of them so that you can tell the difference between business calls, personal calls, or calls for different members of the family. You can even get phone numbers with area codes other than your own. This is a great option if most of your extended family still lives in the same area (but you’ve moved) or if most of your business contacts are concentrated in a given area. In either case, getting a number in a different area code makes it easier for people who want to contact you to do so without adding to their own phone bills.

Another degree of flexibility comes from the fact that most VOIP services make it unbelievably easy to have your calls forwarded to other numbers. For example, if you plan to be at your brother’s house, you can have your phone calls automatically forwarded there. If you’re expecting an important call from a family member, you can have calls to your home phone forwarded to your mobile phone so that you don’t have to wait around the house for the call. Best of all, you can set and change all of these preferences from any computer by going to the website of your VOIP service.

These are just a few of the features and offers that make VOIP a service worth looking into. It is time to switch to Voice Over Internet Protocol (Voice Over IP). This is the end of your search. Start today!
